PM Nawaz, COAS Raheel Sharif discuss security, Taliban peace talks
The PM and the COAS also discussed overall security situation in the country.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Moday and discussed overall security and law and order situation in the country.
The Army Chief also briefed the PM on the border security situation.
According to the sources, the proposed peace dialogue with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was also discussed during the meeting.
The government and the Taliban have formed peace committees to discuss the proposed process of peace talks.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif constituted a four-member committee comprising Irfan Siddiqui‚ Rahimullah Yusufzai‚ Rustam Shah Mehmand and Major (retired) Amir.
Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Sunday announced a five-member negotiation committee comprising Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam- Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq, Mufti Kifayatullah of JUI-F, Lal Masji cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz and Professor Ibrahim of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) to negotiate with the government.
However, PTI’s core committee announced that its chief Imran Khan would not represent Taliban’s committee during the peace talks. The PTI assured its full support for the success of the peace dialogue.
On the other hand, Maulana Fazlur Rehman also announced the JUI-F would not become part of peace process.
