PM Nawaz, Ch Nisar discuss situation after ASWJ leader's killing
Country’s overall security situation was discussed in the meeting.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Saturday and discussed the emerging situation in the aftermath of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jammat leader Shamsur Rehman Muawiya’s killing.
The Interior Minister also briefed the premier over investigation of the case.
On Friday, the incident took place as Shamsur Rehman Muawiya, the chief of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jammat (ASWJ) for Punjab province, travelled by car to the northern Harbans Pura neighbourhood.
"Two gunmen riding a motorbike opened fire on Muawiya s vehicle, wounding him and his driver critically," senior local police official, Rana Abdul Jabbar, told AFP.
He said Shasur Rehman Muawiya was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while the driver remains in a critical condition.
"We are investigating the incident but it apparently seems to be a target killing," the police official said.
