PM advises President to omit 4 laws from 6th Schedule of Constitution

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, after consultation and deliberations with the Chief Ministers of the four provinces, has advised the President of Pakistan to delete the following four laws from the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, in order to accelerate the process of Provincial Autonomy: i) The Balochistan Local Government Ordinance, 2001 (XVIII of 2001). ii) The North West Frontier Province, Local Government Ordinance, 2001 (XIV of 2001). iii) The Punjab Local Government Ordinance, 2001 (XIII of 2001). iv) The Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001 (XXVII of 2001). The Prime Minister observed on the occasion that the provinces according to their need and circumstances may make proper legislation and hold local bodies elections. He further observed that omission of these laws from the Sixth Schedule is a valuable dividend of democracy.
