Allan Faqir remembered on his sixteenth death anniversary
Renowned Sindhi sufi singer was awarded President's Pride of Performance Award in 1980
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Renowned Sindhi folk singer Allan Faqir was born in Jamshoro in the year 1932. Best known for his devotional singing and traditional folk dancing, many of Faqir’s songs were based on the poetry of Sindhi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

Faqir spent twenty years of his life at Bhittai’s tomb, singing his poetry there. He was introduced to Radio Pakistan and then to Pakistan Television Corporation in Hyderabad by Mumtaz Mirza from where he gradually rose to new heights of success.
Faqir focused upon spiritualism in his singing. His song ‘Allah Allah Kar Bhaiya’, recorded in 1986, which he sang along with Muhammad Ali Shehki became immensely popular. ‘Itnay Baray Jeewan Sagar Main’ was a famous patriotic song which was also sang by him.

Though his songs in Sindhi were the main source of his fame, he also sang a number of songs in Urdu as well. Even in modern times, his songs were replicated with a touch of contemporary music using latest instruments but with the same message.

Faqir was awarded with the prestigious President’s Pride of Performance award in 1980 whereas the other awards he received include Shahbaz Award (1987), Shah Latif Award (1992) and Kandkot Award (1993).
Allan Faqir breathed his last on July 4, 2000, in Karachi’s Liaquat National Hospital after he suffered a paralysis attack.
