Johnny Depp tops list of overpaid actors
Depp's films only returned 1.20 dollars (USD) for every one dollar he was paid on them.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - It s certainly not the list that any actor wants to top but this year s most overpaid honor goes to, drum roll please, Johnny Depp. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star whose box office magic has taken on a diminished status with such films as "Mortdecai" and "Transcendence" has overtaken Adam Sandler s position as most overpaid actor in Hollywood.
According to the 2015 Forbes list, Depp s films only returned 1.20 dollars (USD) for every one dollar he was paid on them. Depp may be off the list in no time with two large Disney franchises on the way, "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and " Pirates of the Caribbean: Dan Men Tell No Tales."
At the very least Depp is in good company with Academy Award winning actor Denzel Washington occupying the number two position.
Washington, whose box office pull has remained fairly strong among movie-goers, earned his place on this year s list as a result of his well paid status. Comedian Will Ferrell, whose not a stranger to this list over the last couple of years, came in at number 3. The "Anchorman" star who topped the list in 2009 and 2010 earned 111 million U.S. dollars worldwide his "Get Hard" film.
Ferrell is hoping to reverse this trend with his most recent release, "Daddy s Home," co-starring Mark Wahlberg. Rounding out the top 5 of the list are Irish actor Liam Neeson and Will Smith.
