Bollywood's Aly Goni can't rent house in Mumbai because he's Kashmiri Muslim

Previously, celebs like Shabana Azmi and Emran Hashmi have faced similar discrimination

(Web Desk) – The rising Bollywood star Aly Goni – who starred in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein – said he is unable to rent a house in Mumbai because he’s a Kashmiri Muslim.

The story of discrimination is not new in India as prominent starts like Shabana Azmi, Emran Hashmi and Saif Ali Khan have previously made similar complaints.

Goni told in an interview to Times of India that he’s facing discrimination while trying to rent a house in India’s largest metropolitan Mumbai.

The rising heartthrob moved to Mumbai a couple of years ago and has been living with his cousin. He has been trying to rent a house ever since.

This isn’t the first time a Muslim has had to face discrimination. Shabana Azmi and Emran Hashmi have previously been refused housing in the Bollywood capital for same reasons.

According to Indian media reports, the similar happened to Saif Ali Khan as well. The reports further point to a growing hostility among the house owners and property dealers for would-be Muslim tenants.

A property listing on one of Indian websites sparked an outrage when in 2013 it said this while mentioning amenities of the house and surroundings: “Car parking. Cross ventilation. Natural light. Cosmopolitan society. No Muslims.”

If this happens with the celebrities, one can only imagine what goes on if an ordinary Muslim tries to make it in India’s largest metropolitan.
