Amir considering retirement from Test cricket?

Dunya News

Media reports claimed the left-arm pacer might retire from Tests to prolong his ODI, T20 career

(Web Desk) – Pakistan’s frontline pacer Mohammad Amir is considering retirement from the longer format to extend his career in ODIs and T20s, according to some media reports.

The left-arm bowler, who took 11 wickets in last two matches against West Indies, reportedly discussed probable retirement from Tests after Windies tour with some of the teammates.

The notion came to his mind after the dreadful defeat against West Indies in the second Test where Pakistan batting collapsed for a mere 81 in the second innings. The hosts won by 106 runs, leveling to series one all.

Some reports even claimed that PCB was not happy with the leak of this news and it had ordered probe finding who let it out. However, there have been no such official statements or remarks that verify these rumours.

Amir returned to international cricket after five-year ban due to spot-fixing conviction. He hasn’t outperformed consistently after the comeback, getting just 41 wickets in the last 13 Test matches, with one five-wicket haul.

In his overall career, the 25-year-old has 92 wickets in 27 matches with an average of 31.57 and 4 five-wicket-hauls.

He is yet to win a man of the match or man of the series award after comeback which is astonishing because he was previously awarded man of the match twice and man of the series once during international career in longer format.

Shahid Khan Afridi is one such example that can be related to Amir’s current case. Boom Boom had also taken retirement from Test cricket to focus on the shorter format.
