Compare Kohli with Babar Azam, not me: Umar Akmal
Umar Akmal struck a brilliant 66 off just 42 balls to help Qalandars beat Islamabad United on Monday
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Umar Akmal has said that he shouldn’t be compared with the Indian captain Virat Kohli because they both bat at different numbers. He said that Kohli batted at No 3 and it’d be better to compare him with Babar Azam who also plays at No 3 for Pakistan, reported Dunya News.
Akmal is one of the most talented batsmen to have played for Pakistan in the recent years but it is generally believed that he hasn’t performed accordingly. Once considered one of the most promising youngsters in international cricket, Akmal today faces serious problems finding a place in Pakistan XI.
Last night (Wednesday), Akmal struck a brilliant 66 off just 42 runs to help his team Lahore Qalandars win the Pakistan Super League (PSL) game against the defending champions Islamabad United. Misbah’s team seemed well placed to win the game after the Qalandars had lost five wickets for just 69 runs and were running out of balls to chase the target too. But Umar Akmal’s innings helped lay down the foundations for the team to win the game with some fireworks towards the end by Sunil Narine and New Zealand’s Grant Elliott.
When Akmal got out, Qalandars still needed 36 runs to win and he was unable to finish the game completely though he had brought his team in a winning position. When asked by the media for his inability to finish the game yet again and the subsequently compared him with Virat Kohli, Akmal retorted by saying that he has batted all his life at No 6 while Kohli batted at No 3. “He should be compared with Babar Azam who bats at that number and is in great form too”, he said.
