All hat-tricks by Pakistani bowlers in ODI Cricket
Wasim Akram and Saqlain Mushtaq have taken hat-tricks twice whereas four others have taken one each
LAHORE (Web Desk) - Pakistani bowlers have always been a nightmare for the bowlers and their stats prove that. Their have been some great pacers, off-spinners, leg-spinners who ripped apart batting line-ups.
Hat-tricks break the backbone of the oppositions and Pakistani bowlers have taken them eight times in ODI Cricket, the most by any country. Incidentally the first ever hat-trick in ODI Cricket was also taken by a Pakistani.
1. Jalaluddin hat-trick vs Australia in 1982
First ever hat-trick in ODI cricket was taken 11 years after the first game. Jalaluddin did it against Australia in Niaz Stadium of Hyderabad. Australia were 157/3 and were bowled out for 169, thanks to Jalaluddin, who dismissed Rod Marsh, Bruce Yardley and Geoff Lawson in a row.
2. Wasim Akram hat-trick vs West Indies in 1989
One of the best pacers of all time, Wasim Akram took his first hat-trick against strong West Indian side at the Sharjah Stadium in 1989. All three batsmen Jeff Dujon, Malcolm Marshall and Curtly Ambrose were bowled by Wasim as he became second Pakistani to take a hat-trick. West Indies were 209/5 while chasing a target of 251 but fell 11 runs short after Wasim s hat-trick.
3. Wasim Akram hat-trick vs Australia 1990
Wasim Akram became first ever player to take two hat-tricks in ODI Cricket as he took hat-trick against Australia one year after his first hat-trick. Once again all three batsmen Merv Hughes, Carl Rackemann and Terry Alderman were bowled.
4. Aqib Javed hat-trick vs India in 1991
Aqib Javed s hat-trick came in high pressure game against India, which was final in Sharjah. India were 47/1 while chasing 263 runs target but then Aqib dismissed Ravi Shastri, Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar to dent Indian batting line-up and won the match for Pakistan with figures of 7/37, a record at that time.
5. Waqar Younis hat-trick vs New Zealand in 1994
New Zealand were already struggling at 172/7 but then Waqar Younis finished the innings with three deliveries as he bowled all three batsmen Chris Harris, Chris Pringle and Richard de Groen.
6. Saqlain Mushtaq hat-trick vs Zimbabwe in 1996
Saqlain Mushtaq became first spinner to take hat-trick in ODI Cricket as he dismissed Zimbabwe s Grant Flower, John Rennie and Andy Whittal.
7. Saqlain Mushtaq hat-trick vs Zimbabwe 1999
Three years later Saqlain became second bowler after Wasim Akram to take two hat-tricks in ODI Cricket. He dismissed Henry Olanga, Adam Huckle and Pommie Mbangwa to help Pakistan reach semifinals of the 1999 World Cup.
8. Muhammad Sami hat-trick vs West Indies in 2002
Muhammad Sami was last Pakistani to take hat-trick, as he did it against West Indies in 2002 by dismissing Ridley Jacobs, Corey Collymore and Cameron Cuffy.
