Indians stand for heroes against abusive media; #ShameOnTimesNow
Times Now lost followers rapidly; public started unfollowing them and demanded a public apology
WEB DESK (Dunya News) – When English brought the cricket in Sub-continent, they did not know that it will become the heartbeat of the region in no time. Playing cricket in extreme weather conditions of South Asia, without the access to necessary kit or place, they played it in streets, with tennis balls, in the scorching heat of summer days from dawn to dusk and kept playing till they mastered it. South Asians took “the lords’ game” to a whole new level of public mania.
Today, all 4 test playing South Asian teams, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh reached the Quarter Final stafes of the WorldCup2015. Three of these teams have won the World Cup of cricket as well in the past. In the World Cup of 2015, defending champions India played brilliantly and won 7 matches consequently. India reached semi finals and played against Australians who have a great history in world cup events.
India lost to Australia on 26th of March and left Indian nation heartbroken. They showed some negative reactions by burning posters of the players, breaking televisions and chanting slogans against the team-members; but an English news channel of India named Times Now took the insults to the edge and started shamming the players without being a little considerate of their efforts throughout the World Cup. An anchor person of the channel started a hashtag #IndiaShamedInSydney.
That was the time when Indian people decided to stand for their heroes. A hashtag #ShameOnTimesNow started on social media website Twitter and reached on the top within a few hours. Times Now lost its followers rapidly within 24 hours and their followers demanded a public apology.
Here are some of the tweets showing how a nation stands for its heroes:
