Lahore: Fresh currency notes being sold in black in bulk
SBP suspended its service of booking new currency notes for customers after 5th Ramazan
LAHORE (Dunya News) – New currency notes in Lahore were being sold in black in large numbers but the police refrained from taking any action in this regards, reported Dunya News.
New currency notes have become almost a rare sight prior to the arrival of the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr as State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) terminated its recently introduced service in this regards as bookings for new currency notes were no longer available from July 11 onwards.
According to the new policy introduced by SBP, new currency notes were to be given to specific customers who made booking through an SMS. However, this very service was suspended five days after the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan.
Stashes of Rs 10 notes were being sold at two hundred rupees higher than the original price whereas those of Rs 20 and Rs 50 were being sold at Rs 250 additional than the real price. The stash of Rs 100 notes was being sold at three hundred rupees greater than the original price.
