WASHINGTON (Web Desk) - US President Donald Trump formally unveiled the much-anticipated “Trump Gold Card” immigration initiative, launching a new expedited pathway for foreign nationals to obtain US lawful permanent residency by making significant financial contributions to the US government.

According to the official ‘TrumpCard.gov website’, interested applicants must first pay a $15,000 processing fee to the Department of Homeland Security and complete an extensive background check.

Once approved, individuals are then required to make a $1 million “contribution” or “gift” to the US Treasury — a step the administration says demonstrates substantial benefit to the country and unlocks access to permanent residency under the existing immigration framework.

This new route does not create a standalone visa category but works within the current system by treating the financial gift as qualifying evidence for EB-1 visas for individuals with extraordinary ability or EB-2 visas with a national interest waiver.

The program is being positioned by supporters as a way to attract global talent and generate revenue, while critics argue it favors the wealthy and raises ethical and legal questions.

How the “Gold Card” Works

Applicants begin by paying the non-refundable $15,000 processing fee to DHS to start the expedited application process.

After passing thorough vetting, they must then make the $1 million contribution — which is treated as evidence of eligibility within the EB-1/EB-2 immigration paths.

Successful applicants receive lawful permanent residency and can ultimately pursue US citizenship through the usual channels.

The official site also highlights that additional visa fees and related costs (such as medical exam fees) may apply during the process.

Trump Platinum Card

In addition to the Gold Card, the “Trump Platinum Card” is advertised as “coming soon” on TrumpCard.gov.

Under this option, foreign nationals would pay a $15,000 processing fee plus a $5 million contribution — in return for the ability to spend up to 270 days per year in the United States without being subject to US taxes on non-US income.

The site clarifies that current US citizens and resident aliens are not eligible for the Platinum Card.
