BEIJING (Reuters) – China's Premier Li Qiang will attend the Group of 20 summit in South Africa from November 21 to November 23, the foreign ministry said on Thursday.
Li will also attend a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation event in Russia from November 17-18 and visit Zambia on November 19-20, a spokesperson for the foreign ministry said.
President Donald Trump had on November 7 said that no US government official would attend the summit, because of what he said were "human rights abuses" taking place in the country.
South Africa's foreign ministry described the decision as "regrettable" and repeated its rejection of Trump's claims that white Afrikaners face persecution based on their race in the Black-majority country.
