Dozens of mourners injured, over 200 arrested in IHK
Dozens of mourners were injured and over 200 held after clash with police in IHK.
Indian police used brute force against mourners in Srinagar injuring scores of them and arresting more than 200 people including Hurriyet leaders, Masroor Abass and Nisar Hussain in Indian occupied Kashmir.According to Kashmir Media Service, the police and paramilitary personnel who were deployed in strength had blocked the exit and entry points of the city to prevent the mourners from taking out Muharram processions.Despite curfew and strict restrictions, hundreds of youth led by APHC leader and Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen President, Masroor Abbas, took out a procession from Shaheed Gunj. The procession was intercepted by police and paramilitary personnel near Jehangir Chowk and Budhsah Chowk. The cops lobbed dozens of teargas shells and resorted to baton charge to quell the mourners causing injuries to many of them. A large number of people including Masroor Abass were arrested and lodged in Kothibagh, Maisuma, Shaheed Gunj and Rajbagh police stations. The police also arrested Hurriyet leader, Nisar Hussain Rather, along with dozens of his supporters when he tried to take out a procession from Jehangir Chowk. The authorities have imposed a ban on processions of 8th and 10th Muharram in Srinagar since 1989. Traditionally, procession of 8th Muharram used to start from Shaheed Gunj and culminate at Dalgate while the procession of 10th Muharram would start from Abi Guzar and end at Zadibal.Senior APHC leaders, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi and Maulana Abbas Ansari in their separate statements, while terming the police action as frustration of the authorities, said that the whole city was turned into a military garrison to prevent free movement of the people. The Acting Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Bashir Ahmad Butt in his statement said that it was strange that the puppet administration facilitated Amarnath Yatra but restricted peaceful Muharram processions.Senior Vice Chairman of JKLF-R, Javed Ahmad Mir also condemned the police action and said that the government of India and its puppet regime in occupied Kashmir had adopted Israeli policy to deal with the innocent Kashmiris, who are not even allowed to take out religious processions.
