Palestinians demonstrated on Saturday at a West Bank checkpoint, in support of an expected Palestinian statehood bid at the UN next week.Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Friday that he would demand full membership of the United Nations (UN) for a Palestinian state when he goes to the UN General Assembly next week, setting up a diplomatic clash with Israel and the United States.“The President (referring to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas) yesterday presented the world with their responsibility and this includes the United States, Europe and the all the other nations, saying if you want peace, and if you want us to return to serious negotiations, then recognize us as a nation on the borders that the international community recognized back in 1967,” said senior Palestinian official Nabil Shaath at a Ramallah news conferenceThe demonstrators, who gathered at both sides of the Qalandiya checkpoint between Ramallah and Jerusalem, were chanting slogans and waving palestinian flags in front of Israeli security forces.
