Syria uses force to quell protests

The Syrian government seems to have adopted an iron fist policy against the anti-regime protesters.

According to reports, Syrian forces killed at least 13 people and more were feared dead during an operation in Jabla. The protests went ahead despite President Bashar al-Assad’s decision to lift emergency law, in place since his Baath Party seized power 48 years ago.The state forces started a crackdown in various cities, including protesters’ stronghold Daraa, to crush the anti-government protests. An international news agency reported that forces continued their operation in Daraa in which tanks and armored vehicles were being used. The city is rocking with shelling and firing.
