US President Barack Obama has signed upon the bill for imposing sanctions on Libya.
Talking at White House while signing the bill for imposing sanctions on Libya, President Obama said that US is imposing unilateral sanctions on Libya because continued violence and unrest there poses an unusual and extraordinary threat to Americas national security and foreign policy. He said that a series of financial sanctions he formalised on Friday target the government of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi while protecting the Libyan peoples assets. The penalties name Gadhafi and several family members.While the White House spokesman Jay Carney said earlier Friday that the US would impose unilateral sanctions and continue to work with its European partners on additional punishments that could be taken.
