(Web Desk) - An Arab man was deported from the UAE after he was found guilty of insulting his wife via WhatsApp text messages.

According to the Gulf News, the man was found guilty by the Sharjah Appeal Court after it was established that he had deliberately humiliated his wife by sending her offensive text messages via the communication application WhatsApp.

Further details of the event reveal that the couple involved are of Arab nationality, in their fifties and have been married for over 20 years.

The incident occurred when the couple became involved in a family dispute which then heated up and caused the husband to leave the house. After he had left, the man sent the offensive messages to his wife’s phone upon which she lodged a complaint with the Sharjah Court of First Instance blaming her husband for insulting her via WhatsApp stating that the texts were “full of offensive words.”

Upon investigating the case the primary court ordered the husband to pay a fine of Dh 5,000. However, this ruling was rejected by the public prosecution who appealed it. Then the Sharjah Appeal Court stepped in and issued a new ruling under which the man was to be deported from the United Arab Emirates along with having to pay the original fine of Dh 5,000.

The man was found guilty under the cybercrime law.
