Saudi Arabia gets first woman tourist guide in Madinah
Ayesha suggested the authorities to arrange constant tourism trips for the promotion of tourism.
MADINAH (Web Desk) - Saudi Arabia now has its first official woman tourist guide being certified by the Islamic Studies and Research Center (ISRC), reported by Saudi Gazette.
Ayesha Khaja said she really worked hard to get certificate from ISRC for becoming first Saudi woman expert in Islamic heritage. She said that she was also allowed to register herself in Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) as a tourist guide.
“I demanded the commission (SCTH) to allow more and more women to become tourist guides. The number of tourists is increasing and tourism seasons are becoming all year round rather than for a few weeks a year,” said Khaja.
She suggested the authorities to arrange constant tourism trips for the promotion of historic landmarks in the region.
“Madinah has a rich Islamic history and is one of the most visited cities in the Kingdom.
“There are many women who want to be accredited by the commission to become tourist guides. The commission will benefit greatly by offering women training opportunities,” said Khaja.
Ayesha Khaja said that she has Bachelor’s degree in English Literature but she is passionate to work with cultural heritage department.
