Disagreement between Indian defence ministry, army as suspended officer after Uri attack restored
NEW DELHI: (Dunya News) – Differences between Indian defence ministry and the army are being reported on Saturday as Brigadier Somashanker, who had been suspended after the Uri attack, was restored by the army in another position, reported Dunya News.
According to Indian media, India’s defence ministry has demanded answer from the army over appointing Brigadier Somashanker as commander of 61 Infantry Brigade. The ministry has asked how the brigadier was restored from his suspension even before the completion of the inquiry by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The ministry asked why a suspended brigadier given such a favour at a time when inquiry was open against him.
The ministry of defence was informed, according to Indian military sources, that the brigadier could have gone to court against the force if he wasn’t found guilty in the inquiry. The ministry was told that Somashanker could not have been removed from service merely upon suspicion.
Brigadier Somashanker was in charge of the Uri sector at the time of the attack. He had been removed after Uri attack and made part of the inquiry. 19 Indian soldiers had died in the attack.
