Yemen: Suicidal car blast leaves 17 dead, many injured
A suicide bombing in northern Yemen targetinga funeral procession of Shiite Muslim Houthi rebels killed at least one person and wounded eight others. It has been learnt that a car laden with explosives, today, rammed into a convoy of tribesmen from Mareb province, the spokesman, Abu Hashim, said in a telephone interview. The tribesmen were on their way to Dhahyan city to commemorate the death of Badr Eddin al-Houthi, the groups spiritual leader, who died yesterday. Earlier reports by Al-Arabiya television and other news services gave higher death tolls.The attack carries the same fingerprints and style as another two days ago that left at least 17 people dead, Hashim said.The Houthis have been fighting the government since 2004, saying they face discrimination from Yemens majority Sunnis. Authorities accuse the rebels of seeking to reinstall the rule of Shiite religious leaders who ran the country before 1962.
