At least 16 miners were killed when a fire broke out in a gold mine in eastern China. Most of the victims were suffocated. Seven miners remained trapped.About 300 people were working underground when the accident occurred around 5 pm on Friday after an electric cable caught fire in gold mine in Zhaoyuan city. The owner of the mine , had been taken into police custody.It is pertinent to mention that as many as 2,631 people have been killed in fire related incidents in gold and coal mines during the last 12 months.
