About 90 people have been killed after heavy rain triggered flash floods in and around Leh, the main town in Indian Kashmir's high-altitude Ladakh region. At least 88 bodies have been recovered and dozens are still missing, a police spokesman said from Leh by telephone. More than 300 have been reported injured, he added. Leh Airport has also been submerged in the floodwater, suspending the air service to the region. Ladakh is a mountainous, Buddhist-dominated region, sitting in the southeastern part of Muslim-majority Kashmir, and is popular with adventure tourists interested in high-altitude trekking and river running.
