Around 300 protesters marched in Manila on Wednesday demanding justice for the 57 victims of a massacre in the southern Philippines last month. Philippine media members led the march, joined by delegates from the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), who conducted a fact-finding mission in the province where the massacre took place. The mission included members of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) and IFJ delegates from Australia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the US. Thirty of the massacre victims were journalists, mostly working for local newspapers and radio stations. Their deaths constitute the largest number of killed journalists in a single instance, and has made the Philippines the deadliest place in the world for journalists. Senators and congressmen started a joint session Wednesday to review's Arroyo's decision to impose martial law in Maguindanao. The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal to halt martial law.
