Gen McChrystal demands more troops in Afghanistan, Karzai backs
America and NATO's top military commander in Afghanistan General Stanley McChrystal has warned that he needs more troops and a new strategy or the allied mission will probably end in failure. According to a foreign news agency, General McChrystal admits in a secret report that the Taliban insurgents have made advances in the last year, and that unless the tide is turned back they may be unbeatable within 12 months. Failure to gain the initiative and reverse insurgent momentum in the near-term (next 12 months)... risks an outcome where defeating the insurgency is no longer possible, writes General McChrystal. On the other hand, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has supported the proposal by General McChrystal. In an interview with an American channel, he criticized the failure of allied forces strategy against Al-Qaeda and militancy.
