Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has called early elections in Greece to deal with the current economic slump. In a televised address to the nation, Karamanlis said that elections were inevitable to get the country out of current condition. The year 2010 will be a difficult and decisive one, and so the Greek people must choose a government that can lead the country out of this crisis, he maintained. Karamanlis announced that the date of the general election would be announced after his meeting with President Carolos Papoulias. Local media believed that the elections were likely to be held on October 4. Karamanlis, who was first elected premier in March 2004 and was re-elected in September 2007, is under pressure for certain things.
