Russia: Sharks injured two swimmers

Two Russian swimmers were attacked and wounded by sharks.

Russia has not seen shark attacks off its shores in decades. Experts say more attacks could follow. The local Emergency Ministry said, that it was the second attack on a human it had registered in the waters of the Sea of Japan.A 25-year old man lost two arms after being bitten by a shark on Wednesday (August 17) while swimming in the sea near Vityaz village, some 230 km (142 miles) south of the regional capital Vladivostok.“When I came close to the shore he (another eyewitness) told me it was a shark. I did not believe him at first, I saw that he was not joking, but still did not believe it, I thought that it was a mistake, you know. But when I saw the (injured) man, I did not have any doubts, the man did not have both hands and he had bites on his hip and his body,” eyewitness said.The life of the injured man, who, according to the hospital staff, came to the coast for a vacation was not in danger, but suffering deep shock, the doctors said.
