Mexican archeologists find rare stone sculptures of Copan warriors.

Archaeologists find 1,300 year-old stone sculptures that confirm an alliance between the ancient Mayan cities of Copan and Palenque against Tonina. Hieroglyphic inscriptions found on the sculptures refer to Mayan dominion which governed what is today known as Honduras. Two limestone pre-Hispanic sculptures, representing Maya warriors who were taken in as prisoners, as well as scoreboards used at an ancient ball court were found by archaeologists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) at the site of Tonina in the town of Ocosingo in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas.
