World's shortest married couple gets Guinness verification

The pair tied the knot eight years after meeting on social media, marrying in London.

LONDON (Web Desk / Reuters) - In London, Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros and Katyucia Lie Hoshino were crowned the new title holders for "shortest married couple" with a combined height of 181.41 cm (71.42 inches).

He is 35.54 inches tall; she is 35.88 inches.

"We hope our new record will encourage the world to look past the physical differences in others and understand all people should be treated equally," they said in a statement.

The pair tied the knot eight years after meeting on social media, marrying in London.

Official recognition from Guinness World Record was granted to them after they got married.

They beat out previous record holders, fellow Brazilians Douglas Maistre Breger da Silva and Claudia Pereira Rocha, who were 35.4 inches and 36.6 inches respectively.
