(Web Desk) - Threads is introducing a new location tagging feature that allows users to add a location to their posts.

This feature is similar to Instagram's location tagging; when users enable location access, they can choose from nearby places or manually search for one.

Some users have humorously tagged their posts with locations like “hell.” This feature could also be significant for future advertising on Threads, as Mark Zuckerberg has indicated that Meta plans to grow the platform before introducing ads.

Collecting users’ location data would be valuable for targeted advertising.

Meta hasn’t provided detailed comments on the feature, but it appears to be in the process of rolling out.

Location sharing in the Threads app noticed for a brief period before it disappeared, and it’s currently not available on the web version.

An in-app message from Meta states that location sharing will be used to personalise Threads by offering “personalised content” related to nearby places.

This update could enhance Threads’ search capabilities, which have often been lacking, making the app more effective for tracking breaking news and other timely updates.

Some users have started to see this update, although it’s not available to all users yet.
