With MGIE, users can simply type out their editing requests, ranging from basic to complex
(Web Desk) - In the latest development in the realm of AI tools, Apple has unveiled its own AI photo editing tool. Named MGIE, short for MLLM-Guided Image Editing, this innovative model allows users to describe desired photo alterations in plain language, eliminating the need for direct interaction with editing software.
Developed in collaboration with the University of California, Santa Barbara, MGIE enables tasks such as cropping, resizing, flipping, and applying filters through text prompts alone.
With MGIE, users can simply type out their editing requests, ranging from basic adjustments to more complex alterations such as reshaping objects or enhancing brightness in specific areas of an image.
The model employs a fusion of multimodal language processing, interpreting user inputs and generating corresponding edits accordingly.
Apple has made MGIE accessible for download via GitHub and has also launched a web demo on Hugging Face Spaces for demonstration purposes.
This move marks Apple's entry into the AI-driven photo editing landscape, joining other tech giants like Adobe and OpenAI in leveraging AI for image manipulation tasks.
While Apple has traditionally not been a prominent player in generative AI, CEO Tim Cook has expressed the company's intention to integrate more AI features into its devices.
This announcement follows Apple's recent release of MLX, an open-source machine learning framework aimed at facilitating AI model training on Apple Silicon chips, signaling the company's commitment to advancing AI technology.
