Mobile phone prices go up after govt tables Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2021

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Two days after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government introduced Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2021 in the National Assembly, the prices of mobile phones have gone up.

Under pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen introduced the Finance Amendment Bill in the National Assembly on Thursday.

According to the documents available with Dunya News, the bill proposed to impose a 17% additional tax on imported mobile phones priced at $200 or above.

The sales tax on mobile phones exceeding US$200 ranges between Rs1,750 to Rs9,270 per phone set. The mobile phones valuing more than $200 imported in the CBU condition has been charged to 17 percent sales tax.
