India has won the first women's Kabaddi World Cup Championship beating Iran by 25-19.
It was a defining moment for India when the national womens Kabaddi team lifted the World Cup trophy on Sunday after a tough battle with Iran.The womens team clinched the first ever world championship beating Iran 25-19 during a nail biting match held in Patna city of Indias eastern state of Bihar.A large turnout of sports enthusiasts cheered the Indian eves as they dominated their Iranian counterparts throughout the match, with the score of 19-11 until half time.Deputy chief minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi handed over the trophy to the victorious team amidst presence of popular figures from the state like Bollywood veteran and politician Shatrughan Sinha and states Education Minister P K Shahi.Overjoyed captain of the Indian team, Mamata Pujari bustled with joy as she grabbed the trophy with her teammates.India had defeated Japan by a massive difference of 60-21, while Iran crushed Thailand by 46-26 to book their slots in the finals.Despite a tough face off Iran had to settle for silver while Thailand and Japan had to go home with Bronze medals.
