Pakistan Sports Board announces increase in cash prizes for medal winners

The cash award for an Olympic gold medal has been increased to Rs30 million
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has officially increased cash awards for athletes winning medals in international competition.
The approval was granted in the 34th Board meeting and a revised cash award policy has been issued, significantly increasing rewards across major events.
Under the new policy, the cash award for an Olympic gold medal has been increased from Rs10 million to Rs30 million.
An Olympic silver medalist will now receive Rs20 million, up from the previous Rs7.5 million, while an Olympic bronze medalist will be awarded Rs10 million instead of Rs5 million.
For the Asian Games, the reward for a gold medal has been raised from Rs7.5 million to Rs15 million. A silver medal in the Asian Games will carry a prize of Rs7 million, and the winner of bronze medal will earn Rs5 million.
In the Commonwealth Games, the prize for a gold medal has been increased from Rs5 million to Rs7.5 million. Silver medalists will receive Rs5 million, while bronze medalists will be given Rs3 million.
The revised policy also introduces separate categories for World Championships, Asian Championships, Commonwealth events, and junior-level competitions.
The gold winner of World Championships, which are held every four years, will receive Rs7.5 million.
Meanwhile, Commonwealth and junior-level events’ cash prizes have been set according to championship standards.
A separate structure has been defined for snooker and squash. Under the new policy, the winner of the Snooker World Championship will receive Rs1.5 million.
The winner of the Asian Snooker Championship will be awarded Rs750,000.
In squash, a victory in the British Open or an equivalent event will carry a prize of Rs10 million, while the winner of the Junior Squash Championships will receive Rs5 million.
The new policy aims to encourage athletes to excel internationally and bring more recognition to Pakistan in sports.
