F1 Bahrain Grand Prix called off

Bahrain Grand Prix organizers called off Formula One's 13th March season-opener on Monday after a week of anti-government protests that left seven dead and hundreds injured.

While the authorities hoped for a possible re-scheduling of the countrys biggest sporting event, a final pre-season test organized for 3rd March at the Sakhir circuit was canceled outright. The 12 teams will instead return to Spains Barcelona circuit between 8th March and 11th March after wrapping up a session there on Monday. The decision to postpone the race, already considered a foregone conclusion in F1 circles, meant the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on 27th March becomes the first event on what was planned to be a record 20-round calendar.
