Golf: South Korea's Kim Si-Woo candidate for rookie award

Kim ranks 18th in the current US PGA playoff standings in quest of a $10 million bonus prize
INDIANAPOLIS, Sept 8, 2016 (AFP) - South Korea s Kim Si-Woo was classified Thursday as a US PGA Tour rookie for the 2015-16 season, confirming his eligibility for the Rookie of the Year award.
Kim, who won last month s US PGA Wyndham Championship, earned PGA Tour status in the 2013 campaign but played in only eight tournaments, short of the minimum 10 events needed to be defined as a rookie in that season.
Kim ranks 18th in the current US PGA playoff standings in quest of a $10 million bonus prize after the season-ending Tour Championship later this month in Atlanta.
Entering this week s BMW Championship at Indianapolis, Kim is among three rookies out of 70 players still in the hunt for the crown, joined by Argentina s Emiliano Grillo in eighth and American Smylie Kaufman in 33rd.
A winner of the 2015-16 US PGA Rookie of the Year award is expected to be announced in early October.
