Hillsborough County sheriff's officials say the incident is not life threatening.
TAMPA (AFP) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams, a standout over four National Football League seasons, has been hospitalized after being stabbed in the thigh at his home, according to police.
Hillsborough County sheriff s officials said the incident Sunday was not life threatening for the 26-year-old American, who has 215 catches for 2,947 yards and 25 touchdowns in his career.
"We are aware of the situation that occurred at the residence of Mike Williams and are working with him and the authorities to get additional information," the Buccaneers said in a statement.
"While we have limited knowledge at this time, our primary concern is for the safety and well being of all involved. We will refrain from further comment until we can get a better understanding of the situation."
Williams caught 22 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns last season for Tampa Bay but was limited to only six games due to a hamstring injury.
