Dutch ref Kuipers to officiate Confed Cup final
Bjorn Kuipers will referee today's (Sunday) Confederations Cup final between Brazil and Spain.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Bjorn Kuipers of the Netherlands will referee Sunday s Confederations Cup final between Brazil and Spain.
The final match of the World Cup warm-up tournament will be played at the Maracana Stadium, the same venue that will host next year s World Cup final.
Kuipers, aged 40, who has been a FIFA referee since 2006, says "to reach this level, it takes hard work and we ve done it." Kuipers refereed this year s Europa League final between Chelsea vs. Benfica.
The Dutchman says he is expecting a "wonderful" final between the hosts and the world champions, and hopes that "after the final, nobody s talking about the referee."
