In another close Sunday match, the Wests Tigers beat Penrith 20-18.
SYDNEY (AP) - The New Zealand Warriors took advantage of a vocal home crowd on Sunday to score an upset 18-16 win over Manly, preventing the Sea Eagles from improving their position among the top four in Australia's National Rugby League.
In another close Sunday match, the Wests Tigers beat Penrith 20-18.
The Sydney Roosters moved into second place and ensured Parramatta's problems continued with a 38-24 win over the Eels.
Two days after it was revealed that up to 12 Parramatta players would not be asked to return to the club next season, the Eels were within two points with less than 10 minutes remaining before two late Roosters tries sealed the win.
Parramatta coach Ricky Stuart had spent the previous two days informing some of his players that they would not be wanted back next season, and that had taken its toll.
"It's not something you enjoy doing," said Stuart. "They are all decent young men. I hope they can move on and find a structure and roster around them that they can fit into and play well because they've all got some type of ability.
"Just at the moment I don't have a roster to suit certain players and that's the job of a coach."
St. George Illawarra fullback Josh Dugan scored 12 points, including two tries, to lead the Dragons to a 14-8 win over Newcastle. Canterbury came from behind to score a 36-26 victory and hand the North Queensland Cowboys their fifth consecutive loss.
Canberra takes on Brisbane on Monday to close out the 13th round. First-place South Sydney and the Gold Coast Titans had weekend byes.
