Groin injury ends season for Bayern's Kroos

Munich are bidding to be the first German team to win the treble.

MUNICH (AFP) - Bayern Munich expect to be without central midfielder Toni Kroos for the rest of the season after the Germany star picked up a groin injury in the Champions League win over Juventus.

The 23-year-old pulled up with the injury in his right leg just 13 minutes into Bayern s 2-0 Champions League quarter-final, first-leg win over Juventus on Tuesday at the Allianz Arena with the return leg in Turin next Wednesday.

Bayern s team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller Wohlfahrt has said Kroos will be out for between "six to eight weeks" with the German season to end after the German Cup final in Berlin on June 1, with Bayern in the semi-finals.

Munich, who are bidding to be the first German team to win the treble, are 20 points clear in the Bundesliga and can secure the German league title if they win at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

"It s very disappointing for him and for all of us," said Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes about Kroos  injury.

"A lot will be decided in the next two months and his injury will take a long time."
