SAO PAULO: Thousands of chanting, dancing and singing Corinthians fans have taken over a large square in Sao Paulo in an open-air party to honor the return of the team from its Club World Cup triumph in Japan.
The team, one of Brazil s most popular, arrived back home early Tuesday and was taken by bus to downtown Sao Paulo, where it was greeted by Mayor Gilberto Kassab.
The players then boarded a sound truck blaring the team s anthem, and were the showpiece of a victory parade on streets and avenues lined with fans wearing the team s black and white colors.
Defender Fabio Santos told the Globo TV network, "To feel the emotions and excitement of all these fans is priceless."
Corinthians beat Chelsea 1-0 in the final in Tokyo on Sunday.
