Patrick Makau won Frankfurt marathon but failed to break his world record on Sunday.
The 27-year-old Kenyan crossed the line in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 6 minutes and 12 seconds. Makau was hoping to challenge his world-best mark of 2:03.38 set in Berlin 13 months ago.Ethiopian Deressa Chimsa, who had made a break from the lead group after the 30 kilometer mark, finished second in 2:06:55, with 2009 winner Gilbert Kirwa of Kenya third in 2:07:39.Meselech Melkamu of Ethiopia won the womens race in 2:21:05, a course record.All times were awaiting official confirmation.
