Indianapolis Moto GP: Pedrosa takes pole position in qualifying
Spain's Dani Pedrosa took pole position for Sunday's Indianapolis Moto GP after producing the quickest lap in qualifying. Pedrosa, who won the U.S. Grand Prix in California in July and is fourth in the championship, clocked one minute 39.730 seconds on Saturday. The Honda rider, fourth in the world championship, was a comfortable 0.506 ahead of compatriot Jorge Lorenzo on his Yamaha. World champion Valentino Rossi, the championship leader, made the front row but left his fastest lap until late as he grabbed third place on another Yamaha. Alex De Angelis of San Marino rode his Honda into fourth place on the grid.American Colin Edwards crashed with 10 minutes to go in the session but will start fifth on Sunday ahead of fellow American Nicky Hayden. Italian Andrea Dovizioso and Spain's Tony Elias also came off their Hondas. In the 250cc, Mike Di Meglio of France took pole on his Aprilia, lapping in 1'44.341 to stay ahead of Japan's Hiroshi Aoyama, the championship leader, on a Honda as Italian Marco Simoncelli finished third fastest riding a Gilera.
