ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for an effective public awareness campaign to check population growth.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, he said rapidly increasing population is the biggest challenge facing the country.
He emphasized that measures to control population growth and promote population welfare should be considered a national responsibility.
The prime minister said population planning needs to be aligned with national development, economic stability and human resource development.

The meeting was informed that the National Population Council meeting would be convened soon to formulate a comprehensive strategy for population welfare.
It was informed that a National Stabilization Plan 2026–2035 is being prepared, which will present a national framework to reduce population growth.
Under this plan, the target is to reduce the population growth rate from the current 2.55 percent to 1.25 percent by 2035.
