RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Pakistan and Canada have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a particular focus on defence and security cooperation, during a high-level meeting held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, on Monday.

The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security and the broader state of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Canada.

Regional security

During the meeting, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir outlined Pakistan's perspective on global peace and regional stability, stressing the importance of cooperation and collective efforts to tackle shared security challenges.

He emphasised that collaborative engagement remains essential in addressing evolving regional and international security concerns, while highlighting Pakistan's commitment to promoting peace and stability.

The discussions also covered opportunities to deepen cooperation and maintain dialogue on issues of common interest.

Counterterrorism

The Canadian foreign minister appreciated Pakistan's continued efforts and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, acknowledging the country's role in addressing security threats.

She also recognised Pakistan's constructive contribution to promoting peace and stability in the region, according to the ISPR statement.

Both sides reiterated their resolve to further strengthen bilateral ties and expand engagement in the fields of defence and security.

Pakistan-Canada ties

The meeting reflected the shared interest of Pakistan and Canada in maintaining closer cooperation on regional and international security matters, while reinforcing existing diplomatic and defence relations.
