Gilani urges revival of railways

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting on the revival of Pakistan Railways in Islamabad on Friday.

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has directed that 50 percent repaired locomotives should be dedicated to freight trains to generate revenues for Pakistan Railways and make it profitable enterprise in due course.He was chairing a high level meeting on matters pertaining to Pakistan Railways in Islamabad on Friday.The Prime Minister appreciated that the Business Express Train between Lahore and Karachi was running successfully.He also directed that responsibility must be fixed against those who were found responsible for preparing defective tender documents for procurement of 150 locomotives.The PM directed Pakistan Railways to operationalize the train between Kasur‚ Raiwind‚ Lahore and Shahdara to provide efficient and affordable travel facilities to the people of Lahore and the people living around provincial capital.Gilani was also briefed on Gul Train‚ between Pakistan and Istanbul which will pass through Pakistan‚ Iran and Turkey.The Prime Minister directed Ministry of Finance to hold a meeting with Ministry of Railways for payment of pension commutations‚ GP fund dues and other employees related expanse without delay.
