Karachi administration sealed 500 shops in Saddar and Japan Market for violating fire safety regulations, highlighting strict enforcement to protect public safety.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The city administration has taken strict action to enforce fire safety regulations, sealing a total of 500 shops in the Saddar area for violations.

Authorities conducted a crackdown on warehouses, workshops, and retail outlets, sealing 400 shops for non-compliance. Additionally, 100 shops in the Japan Market were closed for breaching fire safety rules.

The Assistant Commissioner Saddar led the operation, emphasizing that strict enforcement of fire safety measures is essential to protect lives and property in the city.

Meanwhile, the judicial commission formed to investigate the Gul Plaza tragedy, headed by Justice Agha Faisal, has decided to visit the site of the incident today (Saturday).

According to sources, the judicial commission will first conduct its own detailed inspection of the entire building before summoning government departments. It will thoroughly examine the current condition of Gul Plaza.

The commission will also review the rescue and search operations carried out after the fire broke out in the Gul Plaza, the building’s internal passages, and other arrangements, in order to directly observe various aspects of the incident.

Sources further stated that after completing the visit, the commission will issue notices to and summon the Fire Brigade, KMC, rescue agencies, SBCA, and other relevant departments.

Justice Agha Faisal, head of the judicial commission, has also summoned the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. The commission has directed that the heirs of the deceased appear before it on February 16 to take part in the investigation.
