Over 80 power feeders tripped, plunging areas into darkness
LAHORE (Dunya News) - A spell of heavy monsoon rain on Monday turned Punjab capital city into a water-soaked city, with numerous areas experiencing power outages due to the downpour.
The rain, which brought much-needed relief from the heat, hit several key parts of Lahore, including Canal Road, Jail Road, Mall Road, Gulberg, Multan Road, Johar Town, and Garden Town. Other areas like Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Ichhra, Qurtaba Chowk, Lakshmi Chowk, Islampura, and Sanda also received significant rainfall.
It also lashed regions like Qainchi, Chungi Amar Sidhu, Nishtar, Gajjumata, and Kahna, creating a pleasant atmosphere but also revealing weaknesses in the city’s electricity infrastructure. More than 80 feeders of LESCO (Lahore Electric Supply Company) tripped due to the rain, leading to power outages in multiple neighborhoods, causing distress for residents.
According to WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency), the highest recorded rainfall was 112 mm in Pani Wala Talab. Other notable measurements include 94 mm in Farooqabad, 97 mm in Iqbal Town, 94.5 mm in Lakshmi Chowk, and 82.5 mm in Samanabad. Rainfall also measured 76 mm in Gulberg Head Office, 74 mm in Nishtar Town, and 70.5 mm in Chowk Na Khuda.
As the monsoon continues, both relief and disruption go hand-in-hand for Lahoris, highlighting the city's recurring battle with urban infrastructure during seasonal downpours.
