Computerised arms license introduced to end forgery: Malik

Rehman Malik said new system for computerised arms licenses has been introduced to end forgery.

Federal Minister for Interior said that illegal arms licenses have been cancelled.Speaking at the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior, he said that initially manual process was existed for issuance of armed license in the country while a news computerised system has been introduced with the assistance of NADRA.He said that illegal armed license issued earlier have been cancelled while after adoption of this computerized system these licenses would never be issued again.He said that the government has removed the twenty years old system which has been done to remove forgery in issuance of armed licenses. He said that the last date fixed to get computerized armed license has been further extended for a month. He said that officers of the ministry who were involved in illegal business of issuing armed license without license have given strict punishment.He said that ministry of interior has taken action against those dealers and agents involved in illegal business of issuing licenses and directed NADRA to computerised the armed dealers.Talking about the usage of weapons for personal security, the interior minister said that although it is the requirement of member of assemblies and other persons but there are some people who are only exhibiting the weapons.He said that it is not possible to provide security in every street in the country, however, the government has increased the police patrolling to check street crimes.Rehman Malik said that weapons recovered by the law enforcement agencies were issued without license and these weapons were under use of criminal elements.Talking about the security arrangements in federal capital, Rehman Malik said that currently the government is facing shortage of 5, 000 personnel and to maintain security arrangements the ministry has hired the services of Frontier Corps personnel and from other law enforcement agencies.He strongly noticed the reports of movement of leaders of banned outfits in the provinces and issued directives to the Secretary Interior to direct the home ministers of provinces to restrict their movements else ministry of interior itself would take action.He said that all the religious seminaries would be computerized and government would hold scrutiny of foreign students studying in the country. He said that government would do audit of all the seminaries in the country and action would be taken against un-registered seminaries.Later, talking to media, the Federal Minister said that after arrival of former president Pervez Musharraf, he would be dealt according to the constitution of the country. He said that in this regard government would follow the decision of the judiciary.Answering a question, he said that he (Musharraf) has not contacted to provide security after his arrival in the country. The federal minister said that the government has not restricted Mansoor Ijaz from coming to Pakistan; however, we will not let him to come without passport.To another question regarding security of Hussein Haqani, Rehman Malik said that anyone who demands security from the government then it is the responsibility of the government to provide him security.Earlier, Additional Director General of FIA Khalid told the Standing Committee that after December 2009 all the 313 recruitments made in the department were based on ad hoc basis.
