The Chief Justice of Pakistan has declared that rule of law and constitution had been enforced.
Addressing an event here Friday, he strongly lauded sacrifices of lawyer fraternity for independence of judiciary and evolution of democratic norms in country, which had helped judiciary’s strengthening.“Due to this, no usurper would be able to make any further inroads into any kind of adventurism, while no judge would also be able to support any unconstitutional agendas.He strongly condemned the act of November 03, which all higher courts have declared as unconstitutional and while atoning for their past, all judges have unanimously decided not to take oath for any future unconstitutional support /appointments.“I am surprised over statements by various political elements regarding martial law, since from now onwards, this would not be possible anymore at all, as all judges have averred to abide by constitution”, he stated.He berated the elements still mentioning the possibility of dictatorship in country, for having a petty vision, and said that such elements were merely trying to eke out their political mileage by such statements.Chaudhry Iftikhar said that after the independence of judiciary, the trust of masses had doubled.He cited the sudden surge of cases in courts, forcing judges to work from 8:00am till late evenings to defend the legitimate rights of masses. “This revolutionary change has occurred after decades”, he remarked, urging judges to come up to the expectation of masses.He said that in current media oriented culture, nothing could remain shrouded in mystery and secrecy, and as such the responsibilities of institutions had increased two-fold.He also expressed his satisfaction that cooperation between Bench and Bar had increased than before, and lawyers had earned their respect, with their efforts and sacrifices.Understanding the fact that delay in court procedures was quite a painful and agonizing experience for litigants, he urged lawyers to cooperate with judges, while judges should expedite cases for better and speedy dispensation of justice to masses.
